How Much Electricity Does My Refrigerator Use?

Kill-A-Watt Energy Usage MonitorTo trim our electric bill, I considered taking our second refrigerator out of service. I was curious as to how much that would save us per month, so I plugged my handy Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor and plugged the refrigerator into the monitor to find out.

(The refrigerator is a 21 cubic foot, freezer on top, Frigidaire, model #: FRT21NNC.)

The answer? By unplugging our second refrigerator, we would stand to saveĀ a disappointing $66 a year. We would only be saving $5.50 per month by unplugging it. Next, I’ll test our side-by-side model, which we open and close much more frequently.

i pluggd n a watt meter to our refergerator. it’s a cheap meter so i can’t get any calulations over time , only what it’s useing right now. im getting readings from 250 to 500 watt constant . reguardless of compressor running. I estimate were using aprox 12kw per day / for a total of 360 per mo. .. were on an energy co-op ‘electric company’ , we pay aprox . .095 cents per kw . so , were paying aprox. $1.25 per day / $35 per mo. to run our refergetator. how much enegry does a new refergerator use? “really use”
how much could we save? what wud b the pay back time?
