On March 14, 2008, I ran a post called “Crest Pro-Health Mouthwash Stains Teeth,” recounting my story of how the mouthwash I was using as part of my dental hygiene actually stained my teeth a dark brown.
Soon after posting that piece, someone from NBC’s Today Show contacted me about a story they were putting together on this very topic. I just heard today that the story is scheduled to run on NBC’s Today Show on Wednesday, May 7 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. EST. Tune in.

Joe, thanks for the heads up on the story on the Today Show. I’ll tune in and watch for it.
HI- I used Crest cinnamon burst toothpaste awhile ago and it stained the skin around my mouth for hours. When I called to report this I was sent a letter saying this was not harmful. Who wants to go around with a red ring around their mouth? What kind of red dyes are being used? Is this harmful or can it cause allergic reaction? Should Crest take responsibility for putting products on the market that are potential health threats?
How do I get in touch with that lawyer who is taking Crest on?
The attorney’s name is Angela McElroy Magruder. She has a web site at http://magruder.myexpose.com/ but it seems pretty busy right now.
I have been using Crest Pro health Toothpaste for about 3 weeks and the inside of my left and right mouth feels rough like acats mouth and is red with patches.
I am freaking out, that this crap is causing sores and want to sue. Any advise?
This is the first I’ve heard of it causing sores. I’m not big on filing law suits, but if the company won’t do the right thing and put a warning label on the bottle, I wouldn’t blame consumers for wanting to pursue a class action suit. The only advice I can offer is to stop using the stuff.
I have started using an alcohol-based rinse in the mornings/afternoons and ACT at night, and my teeth and my mouth look and feel great! I can smile again!
I used the crest pro health twice before because I ran out of my normal toothpaste and right afterwards my lips swelled up like I had botex and had really painfully sores inside and on my lips. Now that I’ve finally put 2 and 2 together, it’s that toothpaste!
I have been using pro health toothpaste for almost a month. Last week (Sunday) on my way to my parents house for my fathers birthday, my mouth felt “weird”. Now if you know me I often get ” weird things”(reactions) that just makes me stop eating what ever I had a few minutes before the ” weird” thing happens. Needless to say…. what I had last was a McDonalds Iced Vanilla coffee… my favorite! Anyway it is a week and I haven’t had one….god I miss my Iced Vanilla coffee! Ok back to crest pro health toothpaste( i tend to side track..lol).After not drinking the coffee for a week. I typed in my symptoms last night into google(what a wonderful thing). Red roof of mouth, lips and inside cheeks… dry feeling(like you ate a whole bag of pistachio nuts) burning feeling… white film coating mouth (when you remove it the area bleeds) and last but certainly not LEAST your taste is almost gone.So not fun. Long story short…. woohoo … There are others out there like me!!!!!! and once they stopped the toothpaste…. there mouth after awhile went back to normal (something to look forward too!) Its some ingredients in the toothpaste that do this. I am going to complain to company… b/c seriously its not a fun feeling in your mouth( its painful like kacksacki virus) I just wanted to spread the word… stop using pro health toothpaste…. and I think on monday I will get me my ICED VANILLA COFFEE!!!!… i will keep you posted………Mimi
I got my tongue pierced 3 weeks ago and you’re supposed to rinse with mouthwash or salt water mix after you eat or drink. This past weekend I was going camping so I picked up a bottle of the Pro Health rinse because it doesn’t have alcohol which can irritate the healing piercing. On day 2 of using it my tongue felt as though I had something extremely hot, like it got burnt or that feeling when you get a swollen painful taste bud. Only in this case it feels like many painful taste buds. It’s now Wednesday and the tip stings even when drinking water. I must have been allergic to something in that mouthwash because before using it my tongue was fine. I poured the rest down the drain and stopped using the toothpaste which also made it burn. I’d take the staining over this pain any day.
I am a devout flosser and brush after meals and bedtime. I do drink coffee but always brush afterward thus no problems with staining of my teeth. I decided to try Crest Pro Health mouthwash and within the week noticed my teeth had dark lines esp between the teeth. I had blisters on my tongue all week long as well. I stopped using the mouth rinse and the tongue cleared but the stains…..guess i will have to get them professionally whitened. I am really upset.
I just had my teeth whitened (Zoom Whitening) and I asked the doctor what could be causing the staining on my teeth. I got the same questions, are you a smoker and do you drink a lot of coffee? Of course my answer was no to both. Two days after the procedure my teeth were bright white. One day after resuming my regiment of Crest Pro Health mouth wash the stains on my gum lines returned. I’m very upset. My wedding is two weeks away and needless to say I’m staying clear of this CRAP!
I started using Crest Pro-Health toothpaste (Cinnamon) two to three weeks ago. Since then on a couple of occasions I noticed something stringy in my mouth while eating my morning yogurt or drinking my coffee half hour to forty five minutes after brushing my teeth). I remember thinking at the time something something must have been off with the yogurt.
Yesterday shortly after brushing I once again noticed filmy, white “strings” in my mouth, on my cheeks and gums. Later in the middle of the night, as I had forgotten before bed, I brushed my teeth. Upon waking in the morning I once again had the white “strings and a very pasty mouth/tongue. This morning once again shortly after my morning brushing the same thing.
I looked online to see if anybody else had complaints, I am quite surprised by my findings.

I will immediately stop using this product and I hope that this will be the end of this problem.
I got my tongue pierced a week ago, and I got Crest Pro Health Mouth wash, I had a nasty allergic reaction to it and it made my lips and gums blister awfully! I stopped using it and started using H2Ocean and its clearing up but the blisters still hurt and bleed if I move my lips too much.
I recently started using Crest Pro Health Mouthwash also. And noticed dark lines on my front teeth. So I went to the Dentist, she had no idea what had caused it. Other than maybe some antibiotics I had used. But she said it was very unlikely, because that never happens to adult teeth. Only in children while the teeth are still developing. But after looking at this site it is obvious what is doing it!! Because I noticed it after buying the crap!! Thanks for the postings…. The word needs to get out to people!!!!
The judge would not certify our class action. They got away with putting a product on the market that is dangerous! But don,t worry, if you call and complain about the dark spots they will sent you a coupon for crest whitening toothpaste!!!!
