I started using Crest 3D white a week ago, my lips are swollen,bumpy, chapped, trobbing with pain and has turned black. I had no idea it was the toothpaste. I thought it was wheather related sinus allergies. A warning label would have helped me stop usage sooner. HOW LONG WILL THIS LAST?????

Thanks to everyone for posting. I have used Crest Pro mouthwash for several years due to the recommendation by my hygenist. I was aware of issues, tongue and inside cheek irritations and definitely stains, but due to being a coffee drinker and now a former smoker, I would have never suspected the mouthwash. I was looking to find where I could get the Crest Pro clear mouthwash as the one store in my area that sold it no longer stocks it. Soooo glad i found this info. P&G`s response to the problems with this product is disgusting. As of now, P&G products will not come into my home.

I had used the Crest Pro-Health Mouthwash a few weeks ago and started to notice several bare patches on the tip and sides of my tongue. When I looked closely, they were completely smooth and I couldn’t see any taste buds there. I thought that maybe I had burned my tongue and just didn’t know about it. About two weeks went by and the patches were still there with no improvement. So I went out and bought an Oral-B toothbrush, rinsed it off and made sure it was clean and then decided to try the mouthwash once more after brushing. When I woke a few hours later, my tongue had swollen to the point to where I bit down on it in my sleep. My gums had even started to swell and I had good oral health before. I assumed that it might be the toothbrush. So I decided to try to do get a different tooth brush and used the mouthwash later that night. When I woke up, things looked worse and reading through all of these posts, I am never touching that mouthwash again!

I used Crest Pro-Health Mouthwash for about 4 four weeks.
Three days ago I went to brush my teeth and saw that my front teeth had turned brown. I googled “brown teeth” and now I know I am not alone.

Here’s something a little different. Crest Pro Health Mouth Rinse apparently messes with my digestive system. No! I’m not drinking it! I tried it for a week or two and my system more or less stopped working. I stopped using it for a few days and everything came back to normal. Just to see if it was really the Crest Mouth Rinse, I tried it again and everything started to get messed up. Needless to say, I’ done with the stuff.

Within 45 minutes of using Crest Pro Health mouthwash–around 6 pm–my tongue, the skin under my tongue, and my lower gums in front of my teeth went numb and felt like sandpaper. By 1 am my lower gums all around and my chin were numb and the underside of my tongue was very swollen. I took an antihistamine, but it didn’t seem to help. This morning (8:30 am, 2 hrs after another dose of antihistamine) the swelling is worse.

About to submit a complaint to Crest, the FDA, and to my hygienist who recommended the product, then I’m going to schedule an appointment with my doctor.

Over on EHow.com, they talk about the active ingredient in Crest Pro-health, Cetylpyridinium chloride (http://www.ehow.com/list_6396178_cetylpyridinium-chloride-side-effects.html). Side effects included: irritation and rashes, teeth staining, vomiting and nausea, lung damage, oral numbness and allergies. Rats, inhaling 0.05, 0.07, 0.13 and 0.29 mg amounts showed signs of toxicity after 14 days.

While I haven’t had the brown spots, just one use of it numbed my taste buds. It’s been over 14 hours since I used it and I still have that funny taste and numbness in my mouth.

Had my teeth cleaned today. My oral hygienist said that I had some brown staining, most of which she was able to remove with difficulty. She asked if I used a mouth rinse, and which one, and when I told her I’d been using Crest Pro Health she said that was the most likely cause and I should stop using it. So I’m switching to Listerine and not using any Crest products from now on. My oral hygiene standard of care is good. I brush at least twice a day, floss before bed, and have my teeth cleaned three times a year.

Same problem here. I have used many different mouthwash brands over the years. I just decided to try the crest pro health mouthwash – bad choice. Something definately wrong with this product. I woke up with a sore tounge, ate breakfast and lunch and couldn’t figure out why everything tasted so bad, sor to metalic. I realized that I was fine before using the wash the night before so I looked online to see if there were any issues with crest and low and behold look what I see. My taste has been affected for at least 24hrs now from just one use of the product. The soreness of my tounge is just now going down! I hope I can taste food again soon! There should be a clear warning so people can figure it out. At least we have these blogs and boards to comment on!

I have been using Crest Pro Health toothpaste and mouth rinse for about two months. I initially purchased these products after thinking I would switch from the strong effect of Cepacol and Listerine. Was I in for a treat! As a thyroid cancer survivor I am very protective of my mouth and throat areas. So when I started experiencing the feeling of glands swelling I was alarmed! I called my doctor who assured me my thyroid levels were up slightly but not off the charts as they had been in the pass. Well needless to say, the swelling continued and I then started noticing the sensitivity of my tongue, the burning and also the lack of taste. I was alarmed and thinking the worst. My doctor again check my levels and informed me they were again slightly up and if there were no improvements then maybe I should consider having radioactive iodine treatment. Well, I am totally upset by now!!!!!!!!!!
Then I hear that the issues with my taste, the burning sensation and the swelling is related to the Crest Pro Health!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they want to take a smug approach to this!!!!!!!!!! Well let me see them go through a treatment of radioactive iodine, feel like crap, loose their hair, and be isolated from friends and family, and see if they are the same smug SOB’s!!!!!!!!!!! Just for the scare of it all, I will see you in court!!!!!!!!!!!!!
