I have been having this problem as well. Last time I had a dental cleaning the hygentist strongly recommended flossing which I had never done on regular basis. So I started flossing every day and using crest pro health mouth wash. Low and behold I started developing these hideous stains between all my front teeth. I was convinced it was from flossing I never thought it could be anything else, that was the only thing I had changed. Now that the bottle is almost empty I will throw the rest out. Thank goodness I have a dentist appointment in a couple weeks! Oh by the way I looked at the bottle of mouth wash and there is a warning on the back of the bottle that states it “may cause surface staining”. Thank you for shedding little on this situation and letting me know I’m not the only one that had this problem.

I have the same issue with stains in the front of my mouth. Hopefully, Crest Pro-Health mouthwash works better as a toilet bowl cleaner.

My boyfriend just found brown stains all over the backs of his teeth after using Crest Pro Health mouthwash. When he noticed the stains, he started using the mouthwash more, only to find later that the mouthwash was the culprit. My question is – what is Proctor and Gamble doing about this? A claim on the BACK of the bottle saying that the mouthwash ‘may cause surface staining to teeth’ is NOT enough. They need to pull the product from the shelves or add this claim to the FRONT of the bottle, along with all of the positive claims they make to incent consumers to by this product. We are infuriated, after finding all of these comments online, that Proctor and Gamble has gotten away with this for so long. A dental health product that turns teeth brown, should not be on shelves. End of story. We will be calling Proctor and Gamble on Monday as soon as their offices open. I hope you’ve all been calling as well. No more Crest products in our house either!

I was looking up what causes brown stains in between teeth and am SHOCKED by what i have just found out.. I am boycotting all crest products from now on!!

Cheryl has a great bedside manner doesnt she? How about you read more than one post and you will see that nobody here thinks white teeth equal healthy teeth nor that our green teeth are unhealthy. Most peoole here take care of their teeth or we would not be in this thread. The point of all this is that our teeth should not be turning green from mouthwash. Period.

What the american public lacks in dental knowledge, you Cheryl, far surpass in your lack of reading comprehension and people skills.

Thanks for having this information available. It helped me zero in on my brown staining between my teeth earlier than later. However, I was not using the mouth-wash, I was using the Oral-B Glide “Pro-Health” Multi-Protection Floss. Within two months of using the floss, I stopped using it. I had to get my teeth cleaned and now they are back to normal. I went back to using the Johnson&Johnson Reach, mint waxed with no brown staining after 4 months. I did submit a completed form to Proctor & Gamble for reimbursement, but my claim was denied.

WOW ….me too ….coffee drinker for thirty years quit smoking ten years ago ….NEVER had stains this bad…my wife is embarrassed to look at my smile……switched dentists and the new dentist made a rather derogatory comment about my tooth care….now to find out it’s the mouthwash….I am also upset that Walgreens, Sam’s Club and other retailers don’t either quit selling it or warn customers. Prior to seeing this site …I saw discussions of this problem going back THREE YEARS!!!

So what you’re saying is that all of those other products that supposedly keep my teeth healthy but don’t stain my teeth don’t work? I don’t think so. What I’m saying is that I’ll stick with products that keep my teeth healthy and don’t stain my teeth.

“We just want healthy, white teeth ”

That was the whole point of her comment – “healthy” and “white” are unrelated. If you want white teeth, fine, but it has nothing to do with whether or not your teeth are healthy.

Hi, Cheryl–

Of course we’re “clueless” when manufacturers withhold important information. As for being clueless about dental health, I find your claim is groundless and insulting. We just want healthy, white teeth — not teeth that look like we’re three-pack a day smokers. Certainly that goal is within reach with products that don’t cause nasty dark brown stains. I’m just glad that Crest has finally added some wording to the label that indicates the possibility of it staining teeth, whatever the cause, so I can make an educated decision of which product to choose… in this case NOT Crest Pro Health mouthwash.
